The Recollection of the Failed Camera

Hello Visitor! After civic term, The core class Light, Sound, and Time was upon the junior class. Light, Sound, and Time is about how all of the significant elements work. In this particular unit "Light" we learned about the parts of the eye, How light is a particle and a wave due to the aspects it has, the process of refraction and reflection, how colors appear, and the spectrum of radiation. We were then asked to create a pinhole camera to experiment how light can be used to create images. We had to bring a container and paint it black so it attracts the most light and that'll prevent light leaks from happening on the film we'll be using in the future. Then created a pinhole in the container and got an aluminum piece and created a hole in that also it can go inside of the container. I think this demonstrates the camera being an eye instead of it demonstrating refraction or reflection because the pinhole of the camera acts as a gateway to light like the pupil of an eye, and I can't seem to think of any examples of reflection or refraction going on in my camera or the object I used. Lastly, we did the calculations for the object and our camera.

We then went to a Dark room in order for us to actually use our pinhole cameras and try to get some pictures. In my personal experiment it did not go so well due to the fact that I couldn't put the aluminum piece inside of the container. This was caused by me painting the inside of my container first and then trying to put the aluminum piece inside; it couldn't stick inside because the paint was still kind of wet and the texture of the paint caused the tape that was on the aluminum piece to not stick. That caused another problem which was due to the tape not completely sticking, the tape would fall off  and taking some paint with it causing light leaks when I went to the Dark room. I then subsided the first issue with just putting the aluminum piece on the outside. Another mini problem I had was the image being too small due to where I put the pinhole. which was the bottom, since I needed the film to be on the opposite side

; It caused my image to be a bit small since the film was fitting inside the lid of the container I had. When we were at the Dark Room for the experiment as a class we took a picture by opening the shutter for 5 minutes then closing it.

My picture came out like this:

As you can see the light leaks I mentioned before hindered my image, which messed up in the process of taking the image. If I were to do this again I would first start off by creating the holes and having more intentional reasoning for why I put the hole there. So thinking ahead or using my imagination to try and figure out what spot on the container is more feasible for a good image size and quality. This would fix the issue of my image being too small since I made it so the image has to fit inside the top of the container and caused the image to be small. After I make the holes and tape the aluminum piece inside the container, I would then start painting the camera completely black. And then try to tape aluminum foil on the inside of the container so I make sure that no light comes through.
