The Feast

A fable is a short story with animals as characters that represent values or morals you should follow or lessons to listen to in life. Fables are important because it teaches children valuable lessons. Also they're important and universal because you can twist them into what lesson you want the children to learn. Anthropomorphism is the use of animals and representing them with human like traits so for example animals talking in any language humans use. In this F.E (Field Experience) we talked more about the importance and significance of fables how they relate to Panchatantra and also how they differ. Then we watched an example of a fable and debunked it. Lastly we had a conversation with a storyteller to give us more of an insight on what we need to focus on in our fables and how we can exaggerate parts of the story to our own content. So learning all of this, this is my iteration of how a fable could be written.

The Feast

Long ago, There was a great pack of hunting wolves. Aztec, Gunner, Jaha, Seiko, Sheriff, and Caesar. This pack of wolves owned the whole snowy forest it seemed. They were free and strong. As they went out, another day of running around and hunting for food early in the morning. The Leader Aztec decided that instead of instantly eating all the food they catched. They should stock up on food to have a big feast later with their kids and wives instead of letting everyone else get the scraps. The rest of the wolves agreed, except Caesar.

He snarked to Aztec, “If I find my own food why should I spare the food with everyone else that didn’t go hunting. They didn’t help.”

“Because that’s what family does for each other, don’t let food get in the way of family. We’re worth way more than that.” Aztec responded.

Caesar sat in silence reluctantly the whole hunt. The wolves then spent the whole morning hunting for animals, taking the meat from their hunt and taking it back to their den. Aztec asks the rest of the group, “Have we gathered enough food for everyone?”

“Yes.” The group said in unison. Except Caesar sitting in silence looking at the stacked food in malice.

As the group dispersed to their wives and children telling them about the feast they’ll be having. Caesar stayed there planning on eating some of the meat due to his hunger and distaste for letting the other wolves get even more than a piece of their hard work. His spite for the lazy and weak wolves grew and grew along with his hunger until he thought, “I’ll just eat a little part of the meat to satisfy my hunger so the rest of these pathetic wolves can eat.” He started to eat one piece of meat. He would’ve been satisfied until dinnertime, but the greed and spite in his heart decided to eat another, and another, and another, another one, and another, and another. He continued to eat all of the meat and got so full he was as large as the sun.

He just realized what he had done, he was petrified of the consequences.

He tried to hunt for more food before dinnertime, but he was too full and slow, so all of his potential prey were getting away. He tried to hunt some more and ended up with nothing. He came back to the wolf den with despair and regret in his eyes laying there in disgust with himself. Dinnertime came and all of the wolves went to the place where they stacked all the meat. It was all gone and what was beside it was a large and disoriented Caesar. He came back to the wolf den with despair and regret in his eyes laying there in disgust with himself. Aztec saw Caesar and the only thing he could do was stare into Caesar’s eyes with disappointment.

Aztec then announced “EVERYONE, WHAT YOU SEE HERE IS A GREEDY AND SELFISH THIEF. BUT SADLY I KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN DUE TO HIS COMMENTS IN THE MORNING DURING THE MORNING HUNT. SO WHILE HE WAS EATING, ME AND THE OTHER HUNTERS TOOK IT UPON OURSELVES TO HUNT MORE FOOD, JUST IN CASE THIS HAPPENED. THIS WAS A TEST FOR CAESAR TO SHOW HIS COMPASSION FOR THE NON HUNTERS. CAESAR FAILED THIS TEST SHOWING THAT HE DOESN’T CARE FOR YOU ALL AND THINKS LITTLE OF YOU. HIS PUNISHMENT WILL BE LONELINESS AND DESPAIR, HE WILL BE CASTED OUT OF THIS PACK AND WILL BE MADE SURE HE WILL NEVER BE SEEN AROUND OUR GROUNDS.”

Caesar was casted out and left starving due to him only learning the packs routes for hunting. Every single time he barely ran away with his life due to him being weakened from not eating and him being a lone wolf fighting against his brothers for dead prey. He then accepted his fate of loneliness and hunger, then took his final slumber.
